This interactive lets users explore the trends in motorcycle fatalities over time, comparing data from states where helmet laws were repealed or strengthened.
We designed the graphic to work intuitively no matter your device. On a desktop, readers can scroll up and down to view the content; on a phone, users can swipe left or right to navigate. The chart area remains fixed, while the text changes from screen to screen.
On phones, the charts are also "responsive," so they re-scale based on the height and width of the screen.
Source Magazine asked us to write up how we built it – the resultant article contains a good deal of detail regarding all the iterations that may go into producing an NYT graphic.
