London riots - how the rumours spread on Twitter - Guardian interactive

After spending much of 2011 assembling our new team and getting to grips with producing interactive content using HTML and JavaScript, it was quite fitting that our best work came together as the year was drawing to a close. The project came about as part of the paper's Reading the Riots package – an editorial investigation into the London riots in collaboration with several major academic institutions. I'm pretty happy with what we built, given the time that was available.

This project won the prize for best International Data Visualization at the first annual Data Journalism Awards. The Guardian has a write-up of how we put it together and an article I wrote for The Walkley Foundation magazine is available in PDF format.
